ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
Celebrating the life and legacy of a Cheadle historian
Heather Clarke (d. 2011) was a respected local historian, author and former teacher whose lifelong association with Cheadle inspired a deep appreciation of the village’s history and heritage.
Through her research, publications and historical walks, Heather made an invaluable contribution to recording and sharing Cheadle’s past. Her enthusiasm for local history helped bring the stories of the village, its buildings and its people to life for generations of residents.
Among her published works were Cheadle Through the Ages, Cheadle: A Village History and A Stroll Around Cheadle, publications that continue to provide a valuable insight into the development and character of the village.
Heather was also a passionate advocate for preserving Cheadle’s historical photographs and records, recognising their importance in understanding the community’s changing landscape and social history.
Following her death in February 2011, tributes reflected the affection and respect in which she was held, both as a teacher and as a local historian. Her contribution to Cheadle’s heritage continues to be remembered.
The Heather Clarke Collection brings together historical photographs and documents associated with her work, preserving an important part of her legacy within the Cheadle Heritage Archive.
Through this collection, we celebrate not only the history Heather worked so enthusiastically to preserve, but also the remarkable contribution of a woman who dedicated so much of her life to understanding and sharing Cheadle’s past.
